Locus Map - multipurpose mobile outdoor navigation app

Navigate with Locus Map on your Garmin!

14.5.2019 Michal Blog

Using your favorite hiking navigation via a wearable device is welcome by more and more outdoor fans. There are, unfortunately, loads of wearable platforms and each needs its own add-on to communicate with Locus Map running on a mobile phone or tablet. We have already released Locus Map Watch add-on for Android Wear/Wear OS and for Samsung watches running on Tizen operating system.

Now, here comes the long-awaited result of our cooperation with guys from Wearsoft – an add-on for Garmin!

What can I do with it?

Select a place to go in Locus Map. Plan your own route comfortably on the smartphone big screen or import a trip from GPSies. Start navigation – the main process is running in Locus Map in your mobile, you see navigation instructions on your Garmin.

Guide to a geocache…

Hunting for a hidden treasure? Pick your geocache on the map and start guidance to it. Your Garmin will lead you to the very spot.

Plan the route in Locus, export it to Garmin…

…and leave your smartphone at home! Enjoy the freedom of being without the phone for a while and go for a ride just with your rugged Garmin on your wrist (not all Garmins, however, support import of courses).

Monitor your Locus track recording…

Do you like Locus track recording with all its options of setup and recording profiles? Then run and monitor it directly from your Garmin. When your trip is finished, export it directly to Garmin Connect. Or, if you prefer recording your activities directly by Garmin, do so. You can simultaneously be navigated by Locus.

How does it work?

So that you can enjoy all of these features you just need to install Locus Map for Garmin in your mobile phone or tablet running OS Android 4.1 and higher:

Download Locus Map for Garmin >>

When you launch the add-on it takes care of everything else you need:

Does it run on my Garmin?

Garmin produces a vast range of devices with many levels of functionality. Locus Map for Garmin is compatible with a lot of them and many are still under consideration to be added.

Check the list of compatible Garmins >>

How much does it cost?

Download and install Locus Map for Garmin for free – you can try it in Preview mode. To unlock all its features, go to Locus Store (part of Locus Map Android app) and purchase Premium functionality for cca 4 €.

Very interesting! I take it the Forerunner 235 will never be supported. Wished I brought the 245 instead now!

  • Hallo

Hi Armin, we understand your being upset as this situation, caused by Garmin, is unfair both to you and us, developers. New update for Locus Map for Garmin issue:
Garmin released GCM version 4.21 which … solved nothing. Garmin Connect IQ team still doesn’t know when the issue will be solved and we eagerly waiting for new info from them. With the application, we targeted this summer-time and planned some very interesting updates to the app including adding compatibility to even more devices (incl. Fenix 3). But all this have to wait until the problem will be solved on Garmin side. On another side, we want to thank most of our users for the understanding of the situation and that you are willing to downgrade your Garmin Connect app (which is the only way how to make Locus Map for Garmin to work on Android 9 now).

    • Jan Čapek

      Dear Armin,

as I wrote in reply to your email, we are very sad about this issue. The app indeed worked when we bring it to app store. Actually it works for everyone even now if Android 9 users downgrade their Garmin Connect Mobile to version 4.19. The current issue is caused by Garmin and it damage also lots of other apps on their Connect IQ store. We are in touch with them, but they are not able to commit to any date when the issue will be solved on their side yet and unfortunately we are unable to create workaround on our side.
Please follow our FB: to get updates regarding this issue. We tried to put the notice almost everywhere for new users, so we are surprised that you missed it and will review them again.

I hope you will be able to enjoy the app without any unnecessary steps soon.

    Hi Jan,
I just discovered your software linking Locus to Garmin. Please please do develop a software for the Garmin Fenix 3 HR. I would happily pay a few Euros for the promise of a few good features!! And I’d be happy to be a Beta user. Please include me in your mailing list for this! You rock!

nice, but it doesn’t work without phone. It says “Please connect your Garmin with phone first.”

    • Jan Čapek

Hi Michal, yes the app require connected mobile phone with Locus Map outdoor navigation app (phone can be offline though). But you can use Locus Map in Garmin also to quickly import course to your watch and navigate yourself even without phone after that (if you have supported model). Jan – WearSoft

      • Michal

thanks, I have supported model based on your list. Forerunner 935. I connect my phone with my watch, I send course to the watch, It works, but when I disconnect my phone, It says : connect phone.

  • Jerry Lasky

This works well for sending courses to my Forerunner 945.
it would be nice to have away to send a course directly to a Garmin GPS such as their edge series. I know I can export a route and then bring it into Garmin connect but it would be nice to do this directly in one step

    • Jan Čapek

Hi Jerry, we have lots of plans with Locus Map on Garmin for the future and bring its compatibility with Edge and non-watch outdoor GPS devices is one of them. So stay tuned! 🙂 Jan (WearSoft)

  • Moskito00

Couldn´t find the Garmin TAXTIX Charly on the List. Is the Watch also supported?

    • Jan Čapek

tactix® Charlie is also supported – we just forgot to add it to our compatibility list. Thanks for your question! Jan (WearSoft)

  • tomasz

what about garmin 230 ? are you planing to support it ? i would love ty o buy it.

    • Jan Čapek

Hi Tomasz, we would like to have support of this device also, but unfortunately it doesn’t have enough resources to run such app. However, we didn’t give up yet to try to fit it here, but so far there aren’t big changes that we will succeed.

  • Raimund

    Great app!
Could you also add an activity download? I would like to download activities recorded on the watch to locus. Garmin connect only allows that with available internet. Locus could make the watch truly offline capable.

    • Jan Čapek

Hi Raimund, thanks for the suggestion! Direct download of activity is not easy and require direct partnership with Garmin folks. It is currently not in our plan, but we will see what future brings. 🙂

  • Martin

Ahoj. Bude prosím možnost exportovat trasu do Garmin Connect?

    • Locus team

      Dobrý den,
trasy, které zaznamenáte prostřednictvím Garmin doplňku a Locusuu můžete pak z hodinek exportovat do Connectu.

      • Martin

  • Werner Kohl

    This is a great app!
I have a Fenix 3. So, please, support this watch, too!

  • Maksim

    No support for amazfit bip?

    • Locus team

      Hi Maksim,
unfortunately, no. Just Android Wear/Wear OS, Tizen, and Garmin watch. We have no more resources for creating and maintaining more wearable platforms. Sorry about that.

  • Manfred

No support of the epix watch?

    • Jan Čapek

Hi Manfred, unfortunately Garmin doesn’t support this device anymore and left there really old Connect IQ platform version, which is not capable to run such application. Jan – WearSoft

  • Lukas

Presne na tuhle vychytavku jsem cekal. Uz mam koupeno a tesim se az bude podpora i Garmin Fenix 3. Predem diky.

Exactly on this gadget I waited. I bought it and I am looking forward to the support of Garmin Fenix 3. Thanks in advance.

  • Michal

    • Locus team

      Hi Heinz,
not in the near future. So far both Locus Map and the Garmin add-on are developed for Android only.
